The film recounts the story of Preston Tucker and his attempt to produce and market the 1948 Tucker Sedan, which was met with scandal between the "Big Three automobile manufacturers" and accusations of stock fraud from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In the film Tucker hires a designer to help him create a radical new car design, the 1948 Tucker Torpedo. It was our car model that was used in the movie when Tucker creates nation-wide interest by advertising the "Tucker Torpedo" in Pic magazine. Raising the money through a stock issue, Tucker and Karatz acquire the enormous Dodge Chicago Plant tobegin manufacturing and build the fully functional vehicle. The film received critical praise, but was a box office bomb. Nonetheless, Tucker: The Man and His Dream produced a spike in pricesof Tucker Sedans, as well as a renewed appreciation for Tucker and his automobiles.
